In search of more court time, midcourter Renee Savai’inaea made the most of her move south to the Steel in 2021 (from the Pulse) to deliver a breakout season. She returns for a fourth stint in 2024 after becoming a regular starter and key cog for the Steel while revelling in the extra opportunities that came her way. The athletic and strongly-built Savai’inaea first made the Pulse team while still a student at St Mary’s College (Wellington) in 2017. Originally a wing/goal defence, Savai’inaea has since reinvented herself as a centre/wing defence, the strapping athlete now reaping the rewards as she continues to build on her midcourt credentials where she has become an accomplished attacker and defender. A multi-talented sportswoman, Savai’inaea is a former NZU21 squad member and New Zealand Secondary School representative.
