Thinking it was a chapter of her career that was over, shooter Jen O’Connell makes a return to Steel colours in 2024. George Fisher’s recovery from a serious knee injury is taking longer than expected but there is strong hope that she will return at some stage during the season, O’Connell being a late recruitment to bolster the shooting ranks in the interim. The 1.93m O’Connell was a key member of the franchise from 2017 – 2020, with the Steel winning premiership titles in 2017 and 2018. O’Connell suffered a season-ending knee injury herself in 2020 and hasn’t played at the elite level since, but is embracing the unexpected opportunity to return to the top echelon.
