In-circle defender Abby Erwood was first selected for the Steel while still a teenager in 2016, remaining a fixture there for the next five years. Failing to gain a contract for the past three seasons, the resolute Erwood has been rewarded for her perseverance and is now set to make a return to Steel colours in 2024. The 1.81m defender has since continued to ply her trade for the Southern Blast as well as a season with Manawa in the NNL. Impressive form for the Blast in 2023 and a staunch work ethic have propelled Erwood back into the elite level ranks. Mobile and with a long reach, the willowy defender is an effective and disruptive foil in the defence line. She earned selection in the 2019-20 Silver Ferns Development squad and was a member of the World Youth Cup-winning NZU21 team in 2017.
