Earning her first full contract last season, rangy defender Carys Stythe will be back for a second season with the Mystics in 2024. A training partner in 2022, it took the 2021 NZ Secondary School Player of the Year little time to leave her mark. Making her on-court debut from training partner status, Stythe impressed with a maturity beyond her years in subsequent outings and continued to build on that prowess last season. Tall and athletic, the in-circle defender had a fairytale start to her elite career with numerous on-court appearances where her footwork, speed and ball-hunting ability were standouts in one so young. Making a seamless transition to top-level play in her first year out of school, the 1.9m Stythe is an exciting talent and with more court time and experience under her belt, a bright future beckons. She has been named in the 2023-24 Silver Ferns Development squad.
