After earning her first full contract last year, promising young defender Taneisha Fifita is back for a second year with the Steel in 2021. A shooter through much of her school years at Waitaki Girls High, the 1.85m Fifita has been groomed as a defender in recent years, including for the Southern Blast in the Beko League for which she was first selected as a 15-year-old. Fifita featured consistently in the Steel line-up during their 2020 campaign where she continued to enhance her all-round defensive game. Fifita’s entire family relocated from Oamaru to Invercargill, to add their support, when she took the leap into semi-professional sport in her first year out of school. Fifita played for the NZSS team in 2018 and 2019.
